BALLET FLOOR WORK ⎪AGES 15+

The class will consist of exercises to target muscles specifically needed in ballet. They are based on the work of Russian ballet master, Boris Kniaseff. Some of the exercises will then be repeated standing as the students achieve more stability.

What happens in a ballet class?

What to wear

In our drop-in classes, we want you to feel comfortable moving in whatever you are wearing. Tights or leggings and a leotard with tighter fitting warm-ups are encouraged so the Teaching Artist can see your movement and lines clearly and therefore offer the best feedback. Please wear ballet shoes so you are not slipping on the marley. Ballet shoes can be purchased at Grand Jete on Grand Ave ins Saint Paul.

Before class

In order to ensure everyone’s safety during the COVID-19 Pandemic, students’ temperatures will be taken upon arrival into the studio, and students are asked to wash their hands immediately following. Arrive 10-15 minutes before your class so you have plenty of time to get signed in and settle into the studio. Please be changed with hair up/back. Please bring one bag into the studio with you to place by your barre spot.

During Class

As you will have all of your belongings with you in the studio, please feel free to safely drink water as needed. Your time in the studio is a unique screen-free time, please turn your phone off or put it on silent while in the studio, give yourself a screen break and dance!

Combinations will be demonstrated by the Teaching Artist. We encourage students to mark through the combination as the Teaching Artist demonstrates and ask any questions you may have before a combination begins to ensure you’re prepared. Teaching Artists do not regularly do the combinations with the rest of the class, especially as the class progresses to center. Teaching Artists will give feedback and encouragement during and after combinations to keep you growing and improving! At the end of class, everyone applauds to thank your hard work, instructor, accompanist, and fellow dancers.

After Class

Take a few moments to stretch out. Please respect the studio space – pick up any trash/mess and be sure to gather all belongings. Wash your hands before you leave the studio to limit the spread of germs and check in with the front desk to be updated on upcoming classes, workshops and events.

Adult & Teen Sessions & Workshops

For the dancer who wants to make a weekly or weekend commitment to pointe work, repertoire and other dance disciplines.
Each session and workshop is independent from the other, so students may join at start of each new session.
