Beyond the Mirror
at the School of Ballet Co.Laboratory
The School of Ballet Co.Laboratory believes in the development of the whole dancer. In addition to dancers’ technical training, focus on the mental/physical health and intellectual development of each dancer is made a priority through our Beyond the Mirror programs including:
Company Mentorship
Balanced Cross Training
Professional Performances
Trainee Program
Teaching Assistant Program
Dancer Body and Mind Wellness Seminars
Professional Development for Dancers
Company Mentorship
We believe in our students having direct access to our Company Artists as mentors. Advanced Level students each receive a Company Artist Mentor and are invited to Mentorship Events and Beyond the Mirror educational seminars.
Balanced Cross Training
Students train rigorously in ballet technique while also learning strength conditioning, yoga, modern, and contemporary, creating a well-rounded dancer, student and individual. Vinyasa Yoga and Progressing Ballet Technique classes are also offered weekly on a drop-in basis.
Professional Performances
Students Level 1-5 received several performance opportunities throughout the year including performing in our professional productions alongside the professional BCL Company Artists every December and June.
Trainee Program
Advanced Level students ages 15-19 have the opportunity to study alongside the Company as Trainees. Trainees are Level 5 students who also study during the day three times a week in Company class and rehearsal. Auditions are held every year for the trainee program. Trainees participate in all season performances.
Teaching Assistant Program
Ballet Co.Laboratory offers teaching assistant opportunities to our Level 5 students. This allows them to work alongside our Teaching Artists to gain an understanding of the role of an instructor and all it entails. Our teaching assistants engage in hands-on training that not only begins a potential education in teaching, but deepens their own dance training through a different perspective.
